Why Community Building is more Important than Ever!
Dear leaders in entrepreneurship and innovation now is the time to engage the communities we serve with truly interactive content that is highly social and beneficial. Let's invest in the connections of our community and leverage our collective strength to create opportunities for all. It's time to start community building.
In order to properly grasp the infinite power of community, let's redefine it--because webster's dictionary definition sucks (commonality can be misconstrued). "Community" is a social arrangement that is based on love, mutuality, reciprocity, and giving. When expressed in this way, we better understand our role in creating it. We could then decide if we want to be about community or continue with the status quo. Because once we choose community we know we have a responsibility in maintaining that communion. Once committed we quickly learn that community masterfully makes up for the social disadvantages that people often encounter. Once we create "community" we learn that it propels dreams, visions, ideas, projects, and goodwill further than they could have gone by themselves.
For entrepreneurs "community" is a group of altruistic souls who offer their mentorship and support. It's the place entrepreneurs go to when they run into trouble, have a question, need mentorship or learn a new skill. This is place of belonging we create through our synergistic programming design to inform, engage and empower.
So as leaders in entrepreneurship we have a choice to make, maybe we can begin to engage the world a little differently or do the same old boring stuff we have been doing. I implore us all to start building community and yes connect it to your brand or institution, but know that it's bigger than you, me, and our stupid little companies or departments. Know that once "community" is created that it can’t be contained or controlled or manipulated without destroying it. But also know that the circle of love that is created will come back around to us, yielding its loving fruit and blessing us with its infinite power. So, go forth and start coding, programming, engineering and creating what the world really wants to engage in, community.
